A collaborative research blog that traces stories of the British Empire.
Francis Hayman, Robert Clive and Mir Jafar after the Battle of Plassey, 1757
The British Empire was the largest empire in world history, and we continue to live in a world shaped by its many legacies. Because of the scale and breadth of the British imperial past, the tales of the many people who lived within it can seem intangible and distant. The purpose of this blog is to recover some of these stories.
When completed, the blog will feature 19 different posts about individuals and groups who lived within the British Empire. In researching these stories and putting them together, we hope to portray not only the experiences of those who lived within the British Empire, but also a broader picture of the world they inhabited.
